UN Global Pulse has played a crucial role in advancing Uganda's digital transformation through piloting data-centric tools, influencing legal and policy frameworks, and recently, supporting the development of the National Data Strategy for Uganda to maximize the value of data, leverage it for competitive advantage, and enhance regulatory frameworks for transformative development

UN Global Pulse focuses on addressing challenges and crafting ways to foster strategic partnerships and enable the access and responsible and innovative use of data for the DataCities project.

About Sunbird AI

Sunbird AI is a non-profit organization that builds practical
Artificial Intelligence powered systems for public facing
institutions and organisations. These systems aim to cater to
information needs, improve organisational workflow and support
in scaling of implementation. Each project is co-created with the
partner organisation. We believe that better data technology has
the potential to improve planning and real-time decision-making as
well as strengthen the feedback loop between citizens and policy
makers.

Role

Sunbird AI will assess AI readiness of the cities in regards to data availability, capacity and other required resources and develop AI powered pilot projects.

About ToroDev

ToroDev is a not for profit organization established in 2005 to promote use of quality information and knowledge for evidence-informed public policymaking/governance processes and essential service delivery in health, education and practical skills for innovative solutions and economic development of the Ugandan society. At the heart of ToroDev’s strategic interventions approach is the harnessing of opportunities provided by modern digital technology to address real societal challenges in the above areas. ToroDev uses four strategic approaches to achieving the foregoing;
(1) research and advocacy,
(2) dedicated capacity building,
(3) innovative solutions design and development, and
(4) basic infrastructure development.

Role

ToroDev, through its ODA-Open Data Analytics initiative, is largely focused on researching, advocating, mobilizing and designing city authorities’ data governance and management structures that are fundamental for building practical and resilient data systems in Jinja and Fort Portal cities.
