Spatial Data for Urban Growth Co-creation Workshop in Jinja

April 30, 2024

The Spatial Data for Urban Growth Co-creation Workshop in Jinja aimed at addressing the critical need for effective urban planning and sustainable development. As the country experiences rapid urbanization, the challenges and demands on urban infrastructure, services, and management are increasing exponentially. The DataCities Consortium saw this transformative period as a unique opportunity to leverage advanced spatial and remote sensing data to enhance urban planning, decision-making, and resource management in Jinja and organized a co-creation workshop.
This workshop brought together Jinja city planners, urban developers, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders to harness the potential of spatial and remote sensing data.
The sessions were designed to map out available spatial data, introduce additional data capabilities provided by UNOSAT's tools, and explore how these resources can be integrated into urban planning processes. By focusing on identifying existing and potential data resources, assessing their utility, and planning strategic implementation, the workshop empowered stakeholders to make informed decisions that will shape the future of Jinja City.
