In our ongoing DataCities efforts to empower city leaders with essential data insights, we hosted a workshop on geospatial data in Fort Portal City. Facilitated by Dr. Matin Mubangizi from UN Global Pulse and Mr. Sekalala Imran from Sunbird AI, the workshop provided city officials with an in-depth understanding of geospatial data and its various applications, such as disaster management by mapping flood-prone areas and planning infrastructure projects that minimize flood risks, ensuring better protection for vulnerable communities. During the workshop, Imran explained how geospatial data is instrumental in predicting future development trends. He emphasized its importance in key areas such as zoning, issuing building permits, waste collection management, and infrastructure planning. Participants had an opportunity to learn how data-driven decisions can transform urban planning, resource management, and overall city governance. By equipping local leaders with these tools, we aim to foster a more informed, resilient, and forward-looking approach to city development.
