Piloting the Tourist Activity Tracker in Fort Portal City.

March 13, 2025

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen Uganda’s tourism sector through the use of data, we recently piloted the Tourist Activity Tracker (TAT) in Fort Portal. This digital tool is designed to support data-driven decision-making by enabling the collection of real-time visitor data at key tourism sites.
During the pilot, our team engaged with local tourism managers at sites such as the Tooro Botanical Gardens, Cultural Youth Center, and the Koogere Foundation Museum. Through hands-on training sessions, site managers learned how to use the tool to capture visitor activity, helping generate valuable insights into site performance and visitor trends.
The pilot demonstrated the power of digital tools in enhancing tourism management. By enabling real-time data collection, the Tourist Activity Tracker supports more informed decisions around visitor engagement, resource planning, and targeted site promotion. Accurate visitor data helps stakeholders improve guest experiences, better manage peak periods, and design more effective marketing campaigns.
This initiative also highlights the growing importance of technology in Uganda’s tourism landscape, paving the way for more sustainable tourism development and enhanced visitor experiences.
