Fort Portal Tourism Development Workshop

Dec. 17, 2024

In a significant step to boost Uganda's tourism, a five-day workshop in Fort Portal brought together cultural leaders, government officials, and development partners to explore sustainable tourism. The event focused on enhancing the region's role in Uganda's tourism industry, preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Tooro Kingdom, and embracing technological innovation in the sector. Participants collaborated to develop an action plan aimed at improving the tourist experience while safeguarding local traditions. A key highlight was the demonstration of DataCities' data-driven initiatives, including the digitization of essential tourism assets like the crater lakes and the introduction of a new data collection tool for tourist sites. This workshop marks the beginning of a long-term effort to establish Fort Portal as a vibrant, sustainable tourism hub, with DataCities at the forefront of leveraging data, community engagement, and driving infrastructure development for regional growth.
